Is it just me or have knee-high, thigh-high, tall boots gone totally off the radar in recent years?
I didn't think about this too much until recently, when looking at my shoes and realizing I only have one pair of knee-high boots: Joie lace-up riding boots in a lovely rich brown leather. But despite having had these shoes for more than 5 years now, I always end up only wearing them a few times during the fall. On the other hand, I have more than a handful of ankle boots and am always browsing for a new pair. In high school I loved Frye campus boots, but after finally acquiring a pair, I realized that they just didn't quite work with my height and stature.
Yet, I find myself wanting a pair of slightly slouchy knee high (or even thigh!) suede boots. Or even better, the No.6 aviator shearling knee-high clog boots. They're not much more than the ankle high ones, so I feel like you're getting a whole lot more leather/shearling and thus a better deal. Normally my girl-crush Michelle Williams stomps all around town in the ankle high version, but here she's got brown knee-high ones on and couldn't look toastier.

The buckle shape of the ankle high shearling-less boots are much nicer than the straight shaft of the shearling version, imo. I'd love either in black on black, though, because I think white shearling and lighter colors seem harder to clean.
Oh, and lest I forget about the blanket version...currently on sale at la garçonne and elsewhere. Since the Pendleton meets Opening Ceremony x Timberland colab is only making mens shoes at the moment, these would be a great substitute.
They pattern really pops in brown:
My potential solution to the high vs. low dilemma is actually this pair of Margiela MM6 x Opening Ceremony stirrup boots. It's sort of a bloody brilliant idea: 3 boots in one. An ankle boot, a knee-high boot, or if you're feeling fancy just some leather legwarmers that can make basically any ankle boots into knee-high boots. What's holding me back is the 4" heel, which I have no idea if it'll be comfortable enough or not. If I take the plunge, should I go with brown or black? I'm leaning towards black since I have more pairs of black ankle boots.
What do you think?
